Railwayboys Finish On A High
Didcot Town U18's 4-0 Highmoor Ibis U18's
The Under 18s ended their 2016/17 season with a convincing 4-0 win against Highmoor Ibis on Tuesday night.
With Didcot only able to finish 3rd, the game allowed the manager to give starts and say thank you to captain Owen King, James Tanner, Will Baker, Joe Hickman, Louis Figon, Kieran Donnelly, Ollie Nadin & Harry Chadwick, players that are too old to play for the youth team next season.
The game got off to a comfortable start for Diddy, who were 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes. Firstly, a great delivery from a free kick out wide from Donnelly, was headed home by Figon. The lead was doubled when great work from Nadin and Tanner out on the right found Chadwick at the back post, who tapped home.
The first half was dominated by the home team and minutes before the half time whistle, a mazy run from James Tanner saw him beat 3 players and calmly slot home for 3-0.
The second half saw Diddy change a few positions and allowed players to express themselves. Centre back Owen King added the fourth goal of the game when he picked the ball up on the right wing, beat the left back and whipped a left footed cutler past the keeper.
Under 18's Manager Ieuan Morgan on his first season in charge 'Personally, I feel it's been a good season. Not knowing the league or the players and myself only 24, it was always going to be tricky. However I feel as if we have adapted well and played our passing game throughout the season especially on some difficult pitches. I'm very much looking forward to next season and hoping to improve on this seasons third place finish'
The game ended Ieuan Morgan & Jack Woodley's first season in charge of the side and after building a side from scratch last summer, they've built a side and created a style of play that has plenty of admirers throughout the year. They will be looking to build on that next season and with player departures due to age, will bring opportunities for players to improve on this seasons record. Didcot Town can be thoroughly proud of what Ieuan and Jack have achieved this season and look forward to what next season will bring.
